THE GREATEST REASON FOR CELEBRATION

by Sam J Christopher

JESUS - He who created the universe and all therein.
JESUS - He who spoke from the burning bush.
JESUS - He who gave us the 10 commandments.
JESUS - He who filled the temple with His Glory
JESUS - He who conquered death though killed and buried in a sealed tomb.
JESUS - He who gave meaning to our faith by His astounding resurrection.
JESUS - He who ascended in clouds in full view of His believers.
JESUS - He who is for evermore the Alpha and Omega, the Ancient Of Days.
JESUS - He who is coming soon to grab us into the clouds to be with him forever.

So much and more to celebrate about our great God and Almighty Saviour JESUS CHRIST.

On one unknown night, this same Jesus humbled himself infinitely to become a nobody, a baby, lying still, speechless,  utterly powerless.
In a livestock feedbox.

What a humbling!

So humbled, he lay wholly unrecognizable as the Almighty Anointed One who was flanked by worshipping cherubims and who created the worlds by His Word.
So humbled, not even formed in the likeness of the full grown perfect man that He created out of dust in Eden.
So humbled, the angelic host did not see it fit to materialize in glory beside Him in the stable.
So humbled, even the Father did not publicly acknowledge that this weak naked baby in a dirty manger was indeed His own beloved Son.
So humbled, neither Jesus nor His Apostles nor even the early churches found it appropriate to celebrate His "birthday".
On any day.
In any manner.

So, is there something about celebrating THAT ONE HUMBLING MOMENT when He lay in a smelly manger, speechless, motionless, and utterly powerless?
At best it would seem like ignorance of Scripture.
And at worst, a vain celebration that makes little of the infinite humbling of the Holy God.

But go ahead, pick some random date.
Don the red hats
Ride a reindeer sleigh.
Build a jolly snowman.
Laugh with santa.
Wrap those gifts
Roast the turkey.
Roll out the  tinsel.
Light up plastic trees.
Call it christmas, xmas, yuletide, winter solstice, deepavali ...... or whatever.
Dream up whatever reason you fancy for the season. Make it up as you go along.
I'll play along.

After all I'm on holiday.  And I'm all for family, fun, food and friends.

But as for me, I'll choose to remember my Sovereign God and precious Saviour in the ONLY way He longs for His beleivers to do.
And I'll keep looking up for that one unknown moment, when in the twinkling of an eye, Jesus, in His FULL DIVINE GLORY, will whisk me up to the greatest celebration heaven ever saw.

Hope to meet you there!

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God,
But made himself of NO REPUTATION, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
Philippians  2:5-7
